Would you like to do something good for your city, and eat well while you’re at it? Berlin’s newest dining initiative, “Mit Sinn Serviert” (Served with Purpose), makes that as easy as ordering your next coffee or bowl of soup.
The campaign, newly relaunched by Berliner Tafel, invites restaurants, cafés, and snack bars all over the city to dedicate one item from their menu to support people in need. A small donation from each sale goes straight to Berliner Tafel’s food-rescue and distribution work, which currently supplies over 400 social institutions and 48 distribution points across Berlin.
If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it’s building on the long-running “Suppe mit Sinn” (Soup with Purpose), a winter-only campaign that for twelve years helped fund Berliner Tafel through the sale of a special soup. Now the idea has gone year-round, opening the table to everyone from ice-cream parlors, food trucks, to coffee shops.
A few local favorites are already on board, such as Nobelhart & Schmutzig known for their "brutally local" fine dining, Knödelwirtschaft NORD and SÜD with comforting dumplings, and Café Botanico in Neukölln, known for dishes inspired by their own urban permaculture garden. Whether you’re after something elegant, hearty, or homegrown, there’s a delicious way to help out.
Curious to see who else is serving with purpose? Head to Berliner Tafel's, Mit Sinn Serviert, and check out the interactive map of participating restaurants and cafés. Your next cappuccino or slice of cake could be doing more good than you think.
